Dr. Hisham Bsat presents donation to President Waterbury in the presence of Mr. Fady Chammas, Mr. Nazih Zeidan and Mr. Sadek al-Assa'd.

For the second year in a row the Arabia Insurance Co. Ltd., SAL has contributed $50,000 to support the two scholarship funds it established in academic year 1999-2000: Arabia's Basim A. Faris Memorial Scholarship and Arabia's Bader Al Fahoum Memorial Scholarship. Each scholarship has provided funds to five needy and qualified students.

Arabia's Basim A. Faris Memorial Scholarship was awarded in 1999-2000 to two students in the Department of Mathematics: Wassim Ghassan Moukaddam and Razan Adnan Harb, and to three students majoring in Computer and Communication Engineering in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Carine Hassane Daouk, Randa George Zakhour and Imad Adolphe Ferzli.

Arabia's Bader al Fahoum Memorial Scholarship was awarded to two students in the Department of Economics: Sandra Maria Stavro Cortis and Rania Adnan Jibai, and to three students in the Graduate School of Business and Management: Suha Ali Kobeissi, Maya Marwan Zanhour and Maybel Antoine Saleh. All ten students have sent letters of appreciation to the Arabia Insurance Company expressing their deep gratitude.

The check for $50,000 was presented to President John Waterbury on October 13 by Arabia Insurance Company's Chairman and General Manager, Dr. Hisham Bsat, and by its General Manager, Mr. Fady G. Chammas. Mr. Nazih Zeidan, Special Assistant to the President for Development and Alumni Affairs, and Mr. Sadik Al-Assa'd, Acting Director of Development, were also present for the occasion.
Both Dr. Bsat and Mr. Chammas expressed Arabia's continued confidence in AUB's program and their full support for President Waterbury's leadership. They emphasized the fact that both Basim Fares and Bader El Fahoum would have been pleased that the scholarship funds in their names are being used to provide educational opportunities to talented young students who would otherwise find it difficult to pursue a university education.
