Sarah Thayer Leaves Beirut But Not AUB

Mrs. Sarah Thayer has stepped down from her position as Deputy VP of Development, but she will continue to serve as Development Consultant to the University.
In her new role Mrs. Thayer will assist the Development Offices of both Beirut and New York, as well as the Board of Trustees and other officials to prepare a menu of needs and gift opportunities across the University. She will also help develop strategies for realizing these objectives.
Acknowledging her accomplishments over the last year, Dr. Waterbury praised the energy and dedication Mrs. Thayer brought to her job. "She has instituted new business practices and has created a team-oriented approach to development, which includes delegating responsibility for various functions....to members of the team," he said.


  Dr. Kamel Abdallah: Interim Assistant Vice President, REP

Dr. Kamel Abdallah has been appointed Interim Assistant Vice President-REP for one year starting August 1. Dr. Abdallah will serve in an interim capacity pending the regular search process.
Professor Abdallah earned his PhD in Strategic Management from Ohio State University in 1992. Since joining AUB in 1999, he has actively contributed to several REP projects in Lebanon and the region.
"With him on board, the REP family will be significantly strengthened in staying ahead of the challenges of our dynamic regional environment," REP Vice President George Najjar said in his announcement.

New AUB Comptroller


 John Bernson, Vice President for Finance, recently announced that Howard Ray, who has served AUB in a variety of capacities for many years, has agreed to become AUB's Comptroller effective October 26. He will be assisted by Nelly Abdul Baki, who will continue to serve as Deputy Comptroller.

1. Approval of the minutes of the previous meeting.
2. Welcoming new Senate members:

  President Waterbury welcomed the following new Senate members: From Arts and Sciences,
 
Professors A.F. Abdel Rahman and Nizar Hamzeh. From the Faculty of Medicine, Professors Samir Arnaout and Ramzi Musharafieh. From the School of Nursing, Professor Sossy Balian. From Engineering and Architecture - Assem Abdel Malak. From Agricultural and Food Sciences - Professor Nahla Hwalla

3. Two degrees for medical students were approved.

4. Elections:
- Members of the Senate Steering Committee
- Members of the Faculty Affairs Committee

Elections were held with the following results:
Senate Steering Committee:
Chairperson - Alex Abdelnour

5. Other business.

 President Waterbury spoke of the need for conformity of student regulations throughout the University. He asked the Student Affairs Committee to unify and document such regulations across the University.
