AUB’s Vice President for Development and External Relations W. Stephen Jeffrey recently announced the appointment of Omar Odeh as Assistant Vice President for Communications and Marketing following the formation of an integrated communications office for the University.
This office — henceforth referred to as the Office of Communications — has been charged with increasing and advancing AUB’s identity in Lebanon, the region, and beyond. This new office will integrate existing communications functions on campus – including marketing, media relations, publications, website design, video, institutional advertising, event planning, and competitive intelligence.
AUB is facing an increasingly competitive environment as the number and quality of higher education institutions continue to rise in the Middle East. Tighter integration of AUB’s marketing activities will allow the institution to more effectively communicate strategic messages across multiple audiences – including students, donors, prospective patients, and other communities that AUB serves.
The Office of Communications will be responsible for positioning the University and its medical center with greater consistency and more deliberate frequency across the many communication mediums available to AUB. The office will also be responsible for developing and implementing an overarching visual identity system to define and consolidate the institution’s core brand. This new organization will include the Office of Information and Public Relations and the Office of University Publications.
Odeh has been appointed to lead the Office of Communications. In his capacity as Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications, he will serve as the University’s chief marketing officer reporting directly to Vice President Jeffrey.
Since July 2003, Odeh has served AUB as its Director for Marketing and Publications. Before joining AUB, he held senior marketing positions in the private sector in the United States. Previous employers include 3Com, Alcatel, and Reuters where he held various marketing, strategic positioning, and competitive analysis roles. |
