New AUB-SLOAN Partnership

“The Sloan Consortium is an institutional and professional leadership organization dedicated to integrating on-line education into the mainstream of higher education, helping institutions and individual educators improve the quality, scale, and breadth of on-line education.”

The AUB–Sloan partnership gives AUB faculty members access to the Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks (JALN), a database of articles and research papers about topics related to on-line learning. These papers have been peer reviewed and highlight important practices in the field.  Faculty members can also publish their research in the journal.

Sloan-C Effective Practices
Sloan Effective Practices is a very handy collection of techniques and strategies to enhance the on-line component of courses. Effective practices can be searched through:

1. Pillar: “allows… search by the five Sloan-C pillars, the building blocks of quality on-line education—learning effectiveness, scale, access, faculty satisfaction, and student satisfaction.”

2. Context: “allows… search by perspectives (roles) in on-line learning, organizational type, or subject area domain, as well as by special cases of on-line learning (such as on-line collaboration, or large class size), and/or by subcategories within these.”

3. Technology: “allows… search by particular technology categories—audio, video, synchronous, asynchronous, mobile, virtual, and digital resources—and/or by subcategories within them.”

4. Recently Added Practices is where the most recently uploaded items can be viewed.

5. Successful experiences in teaching with technology can be shared by uploading individual examples of effective practices.
