Laboratory Goals:
In the first part of the lab you will have the opportunity to examine a lot of plant sections that will help you understand the anatomy of the most important organisms on earth "Plants". In the second half of the lab you will have the chance to dissect a fetal pig and study all the systems in the pig, that are extremely similar to what is there in man.

Laboratory Guidelines:
An outline of the lab lecture is available on on E-reserve & on Moodle. You will be given a password & a user name to access it. It is advisable that you bring a copy of the lab lecture with you to class & add your notes on it.
You must complete all assigned work during the regular laboratory period. There will be no makeup labs. You must attend the section you are registered for. If you are unable to attend your usual lab session due to an accident or illness, we can sometimes place you in a different section for that week, pending the approval TA concerned. BUT you will need a written note or email from your academic advisor, or your physician explaining your absence from your usual lab section. We will NOT schedule makeup labs for social events or travel convenience. You must notify the instructor as soon as possible if you need to reschedule a lab.Any Student who misses three laboratory sessions or more will be asked to withdraw from the course.
Quizzes. You will be given a maximum of 3 drop quizzes. You will be asked questions about the previous labs and the lab lecture of that week's lab session. There will be no makeup quizzes.
Be prepared when you come to lab. Read the lab guide in advance, to ease the osmosis of knowledge. Read
it as you examine the slides and specimens. The lab guide also contains step by step instructions for the dissections. Bring your lab manual to class and compare the photos etc. to the specimens you'll see in lab. Whenever you examine slides in the lab, it is recommend that you print the discussions that I have posted on my website http://staff.aub.edu.lb/~ns02 & bring them with you to the lab session. Exam questions are often based on recognition and recall, and the manual can help you  remember what you saw in lab.
Clean your station thoroughly before you leave. Your area must be clean, your microscope properly stored, and all display materials returned to wherever you found them. Take only one or two slides at a time from the display area (some are in short supply) and be sure to return them to the proper tray.
All plant and animal matter goes into a special garbage container (near the sinks). Do not put arms, legs, lower life forms, pieces of plants, etc. into the regular trash containers. Dispose of slides and other glassware ONLY in the container provided.
You should wear lab gowns at all times during the laboratory session. A dissecting set and gloves are needed for dissection. It is recommended that contact lenses are taken of and regular eye glasses are used when you are dissecting.
No food or drinks are allowed in the lab. All cell phones must be put of during the lab session.
You will be held responsible for any damage you do to the microscopes. Don't try to rush through the exercises -- remember that everyone in lab is playing with sharp knives and small pieces of glass. No running around the room with scissors! you will be charged for any damage you do in the lab.
Incase you have any health problem, For example, if you are diabetic, epileptic or have any problem like color blindness, kindly make sure to let us know about your health conditions as soon as possible.

Have fun. Labs shouldn't be a grind. This will be your first (and perhaps only) chance to dissect a fetal pig & study all its systems that are very similar to man. The first and only rule in lab is handle with care.
Grading:The laboratory is worth 25% of your course grade, which will be divided as follows:
10%
Lab Midterm
10%
Lab Final

   3%

Drop Quizzes
2%
Evaluation of Fetal Pig dissection

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
