Turnitin is an Internet-based service intended to help
identify and prevent plagiarism cases.
|
|
How does Turnitin work?
-
Instructors and students submit documents to Turnitin
website.
-
Turnitin's servers compare documents submitted with:
- millions of pages of academic journals, books and newspapers,
- over 4.5 billion pages of the current and archived
Internet, and
- Turnitin's databases of over 10 million student papers.
-
The results of the comparison between a student
paper and the above sources returns as a color-coded customized Originality
Report
|
|
The Originality Report
|
 |
The report shows all text matches found, along with the sources
of those matches. The report will guide instructors in
deciding whether or not plagiarism has occurred. |
NOTE: Faculty should have a clear
understanding of plagiarism and should be familiar with the
AUB Student Code of Conduct
(approved by the Senate on April 5, 2002) for dealing with possible plagiarism
cases among their students.
