From: John Waterbury, President
I am listening to the first commercial air liners arriving at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport in a number of days. It is a very pleasant sound. The agreement announced this afternoon(Thursday, May 15) by the Qatari Foreign Minister and the League of Arab States puts Lebanon on a positive course.
So, with cautious optimism, we will resume classes and our normal academic program beginning Monday, May 19, 2008. I have asked Dr. Salameh, the Registrar, to work on a revised academic calendar and exam schedule so that we can finish the semester and hold Commencement on time. I will be communicating the schedule to you as soon as it is ready.
In the meantime let's be thankful that we may be able to get back to what we are supposed to do: fulfilling our academic mission for Lebanon and the region.
Best regards,
John Waterbury
